How do I customize the blog template in Hello Boho? The blog excerpt is showing up twice!
I would also like to change the size of the featured post image and not have it aligned to the left.

Also, in the footer, how would i add the FontAwesome symbols to the menus like in the demo?

With Hello You themes we use the Excerpt field for your shop widgets.  So you would not want to use the custom excerpt field for the actual excerpt of the post.  You can go to Genesis > Theme Settings > and choose to show a content limit or the excerpt there.  It is also the spot that you can change the featured post size and alignment.
FontAwesome symbols can be pasted into the descriptions of the menu items, or even the menu item name.  What is tricky is that wordpress will delete your icons after you save it.  So basically don’t save it until you have all of your icons added.  Once saved it will show on the site, but if you go back to edit the icons or the menu, it will auto remove them and each icon will need to be readded.  This is a new issue and will hopefully fix itself on the next WordPress update.

But, how do I remove the second Excerpt? It’s not showing in the demo, but for some reason, it’s showing in my theme.

You would go to the post that is showing it, scroll down to the excerpt field and delete the text that was added to it. Or if you have it added via a plugin, you would want to remove the plugin. If that does not help, send your URL and login to support.helloyoudesigns.com

I am wanting to show the excerpt, NOT the entry content for my blog posts when on the Blog page, which it seems the person above wanted to do as well. But because of this, the theme seems to show it twice automatically once you change the Genesis > Theme Settings > Entry Excerpt displays – first right under the title, and then again just a line below that… How do I do this?

The excerpt is pretty much the exact same as a content limit with genesis. With the content limit you get more customization as too how much is shown. If you want to show an excerpt, then you can select that. Go to Genesis > Theme Settings > and pick Excerpt. You would not double copy an excerpt into the excerpt field. It is not needed with Genesis themes. So instead we use the excerpt for a shop style widget, optin, or special message that you may want to display with that particular post.

But I do not want the “excerpt” to be the first few lines from the blog post, rather a separate short piece of content that I write. I take it you’re telling me that this universal use of excerpt which is often used with certain SEO plugins does not function the way it should?

There is a difference between an excerpt and customizing an excerpt for SEO. The universal, or traditional use of an excerpt is to take the first few sentences and display it on the blog roll. Which is what the Genesis themes do automatically. It functions the way that an excerpt was designed to be used, what you are trying to do is something that is different from the norm. To use something for SEO purposes you can download the yoast plugin and add your custom excerpt to the fields that they provide. That will optimize your post for SEO and also allows you to get very specific to what is shown on the search preview screen.

To do what you would like to do so no content shows automatically, and you can use a custom written excerpt, then the theme would need to be modified.

I already have yoast, but have used the Excerpt function in WordPress for over a decade to showcase specific content I want rather than the beginning of the content written in the blog post. I’ll now have to go in and adjust all my past blog posts to remove this…

I can remove the automatic excerpt, then that manual excerpt can show in it’s place. If you would like to do that, vs going through all of the posts, shoot over the login to my email jennifer@helloyoudesigns.com

Hi Dear,
I have exactly the same problem.

When I write the Excerpt it works, BUT it shows also at the end of every post and every page plus above the footer of the homepage, right above the categories and tags.
It is also very different looking as in the Demo , in size and fonts.
PLEASE HELP!
Kind Regards,
Veronica
