Connecting Mailchimp with Genesis

Hi!  I am trying to connect my genesis Enews widget to my mail chimp account.  I have them connected now however I want to keep the clients info in the little sign up form on my website…but mailchimp is opening a new page and they are having to enter their info twice!   This is the link it is opening, after they have already entered their info in the little genesis box: https://stefaniechilds.us19.list-manage.com/subscribe/post?u=d5136de3efd3f9decf6667a2a&id=26c4ef5e28  Is there a way for when they click the “send” button for it to send the info to mail chimp without opening this new window and they have to double enter their names/email?

This usually happens when you Mailchimp form is requiring more fields to be collected than your actual enews widget is collecting.  You would want to log on to your Mailchimp and remove the required fields of first name and last name.  Once you do that it should not do the double optin.

Hi ! I have the same problem as Stephanie and I have just tried what you said, and the problem is still here, this time only asking for the email address. Someone told me I need to update something in the code, can you tell me where I can find the html code of the genesis registration form ? Thank you in advance !

This is not a code issue. The html code will only style the way the form looks. The issue is that mailchimp does not think it is getting all of the required fields needed for the List that you have set up in Mailchimp. Because of that it takes your readers to another page to enter in all of the required fields of your list. To prevent that you have to change the required fields in your Mailchimp settings.

Do you have the right actions in the labels? For MailChimp it is Email, Fname, Lname. If you have something other than those in the labels, it will not recognize the field.

Megane Daumas replied 5 years ago

I have these labels yes, but if I remove the required fields of first name and last name as you suggested, I still have a second page opening this time, only asking for the email address, as this is the only required field. So I really don’t know what to do now to change that. How am I supposed to do ?

Here is the link a friend sent me : https://mailchimp.com/en/help/host-your-own-signup-forms/ This is why I was asking for the html code…

Support Team Staff replied 5 years ago

That code is not in your theme but your MailChimp list. The form action is the bit of code you would add to the newsletter widget in order to que your list. When you say that you removed the required fields, did you do it in your Mailchimp settings, or remove them from the newsletter widget on the site? If you would like, send your site login, and mailchimp login and the list name, to support@helloyoudesigns.com and we can take a look at everything.

I did it in my Mailchimp settings, not on the site. I just sent you an email with all the informations required, thanks a lot !!!

Mine is still opening at second page too. Can you add you results in this thread? I am still not sure what to do on my end either 🙁

Support Team Staff replied 5 years ago

There were two issues.. The first was that the required fields for the First Name and Last Name had not been removed from the Mailchimp list. You edit this in your Mailchimp account. The second issue was that the E-mail Field had the wrong value in it, located in the Genesis Enews Widget. When submitting the form to Mailchimp, it did not recognize that it was collecting an email. Once that value was changed to the correct one, and the required inputs removed, there was no longer a second signup screen.

Hi! I emailed this question and haven’t gotten a response 🙂 Wanted to check in to see if someone might be able to log-into my site and see what the problem might be 🙂 Thanks so much!

I have your email and tried to respond but it keeps getting kicked back as undeliverable. The login details that we have do not work. Could you verify them for me.

Jennifer Staff replied 5 years ago

Just sent a response to your email from this morning and it was kicked back again. Your Portfolio and newsletter are fixed. You will need to look into your branded email and see why it is getting kicked back.

HI I am also having this problem!! I have removed all required fields in mailchimp and still getting the double optin window… please help!

Support Team Staff replied 5 years ago

If all of the required input fields have been removed in Mailchimp, then you would want to make sure that your email action matches what your list needs, usually EMAIL (all caps) and that your form action is correct. If that still does not work, email us your mailchimp and site login to support@helloyoudesigns.com

How do i check that my form action is correct?

Kate Groag-hovord replied 5 years ago

i have emailed as well thanks so much xx

Support Team Staff replied 5 years ago

When you look at your Merge tags it will show you want the form wants, and it has to be exactly what is in the Genesis enews widget. Yours was set to be EMAIL in all caps. Once I changed it from the Email, to EMAIL, which I know is ridiculous, your form now works.

You star thank you!
