Hello Blush: How Can I Make Portfolio Items Enlarge the image rather than opening a page?

I’m frustrated with the portfolio feature. It’s really beautiful and one of the most compelling things about the Hello Blush theme for the photography site I’m working on. However, each portfolio item opens a new page (which I have to design) rather than just enlarging the image.
How can I make the portfolio items look like your example and your website?

With the built in portfolio, it is designed to do that. It works as sort of a filterable archive, highlighting the featured image of the portfolio and then you click through for more information on the portfolio item.
On the Hello You Designs site we are using a premium portfolio called Go Portfolio
