I downloaded the theme and the demo theme content and it looks good when I preview my website but when I go to edit anything its completely messed up. It looks nothing like the demo.

What is your URL?  Without logging on to see what is going on, or having screenshots it is hard to say what is happening.  Is it just when in the customizer that it doesn’t look right?  If so that may be from your site cache, the custoizer hasn’t caught up to the changes.
