password protection for theme pages stopped working

Hello,
I’m no longer able to password protect my webpages using the password protect feature listed in wordpress whenever you create/publish a page. When I go to the url for the page that is supposed to be password protected, it says “this page is password protected, please enter the password to view and access the content.” So far, so good.
The issue is that after you enter the password, the page simply refreshes itself and requests the password again as if it has never ever even been entered. 
May you advise how to go about fixing this?

For this it would not really be a theme issue.  There is not anything in the theme that controls the output of those pages.  It is all from WordPress.  Do you know if you are using the latest version of wordpress?  You may need to reach out to your host and have them take a look at your core files and make sure there are no issues.  It can also be a plugin that is causing conflict.

Hi Jennifer, Thank you for taking time to help. To answer your question, yes. WordPress is up to date (latest version). And okay, I will reach out to my hosting provider to see what they can find.
