Hi Jennifer,
I have the Hello Nouveau theme and I am trying to edit the home grid colours… I would like all of the grid elements to have the same background colour (grey). More particularly, I wish to change the pink colour.  
I have tried editing the style-front.css with the colour code that I’d like, but that has turned out not to be fruitful.
 
Can you please help?

This is because all of the grid colors are connected to the customizer. You should be able to change each grid color in the customizer to be the gray.
