I just downloaded the theme and I am trying to figure out how I could display my categories instead of on the “latest in the shop’ for the home flexible widget. Would I also be able to have like a featured picture corresponding to each blog category?

Attached is how I want it to look.

You would use the Genesis Featured Page Advanced plugin in a flexible spot and can display an image and link to your categories.  You may need to add some coding to get that overall category box and general look.  But they will line up like that in a row with the flex widget spot.
